You are considering to get a brand-new look by transforming your hair color - easy, right? Yet, you google 'hair color' and will probably get bombarded with confusing technical jargons; such as Balayage and Ombre. If you don't know what they mean or what the difference between both is, you are not a lone! While the differences are subtle, the two techniques - if done right - will give you a different feel of your hair look. This post will help you understand and choose the way to go.

What is Balayage?
Pronounced /BAH-LEE-AHGE/, balayage is a French word meaning ‘to sweep’, i.e. sweeping on a hair lightener to create highlights. In other words, balayage is the technique of free-hand painting highlights onto the hair, creating a soft and natural gradation of lightness towards the ends of your hair. In that sense, it is a natural-looking highlighting technique that is used on all shades of hair to add soft, sun-kissed dimension. the main reason balayage has become so popular is that it allows colorists to hand select the pieces of hair they want to highlight. Due to the customized, natural-looking placement, balayage also allows for a softer grow out.
At the end, what you need to remember is that Balayage is a highlighting technique - not the end result. The hair technician will opt to choose balayage based on the end result you aim.
